Building Little Leaders
The Leadership school is designed to empower little learners to become little leaders. The TLS cultural and instructional model equips students with the knowledge, skills and mindset to create lives of choice and opportunity.

Preparing Students for a Life of Choice and Opportunity:
The world has changed dramatically in the last 50 years. The skills needed to be successful in today and tommorow’s world are very different than the skills that were needed 50 years ago. The instructional model at TLS centers around building agency in our students and equipping students with the knowledge, skills and mindset to create a life of opportunity and choice. Our instructional models is designed to produce graduates that will be able to thrive in an ever-changing 21st century.
Science Curriculum:
Amplify Science is a K–8 science curriculum that blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers. In each Amplify Science unit, students inhabit the role of a scientist or engineer to investigate a real-world problem. Amplify Science is rooted in the Lawrence Hall of Science’s Do, Talk, Read, Write, Visualize model of learning. Gold standard research shows that this pedagogical approach works, and our early efficacy research about Amplify Science is promising, too. Amplify Science meets the criteria for Tier III-Promising Evidence as an education intervention under ESSA.
ELA Curriculum:
We use EL Education’s ELA Modules; module lessons are a daily one hour block that address the Missouri ELA Learning Standards for speaking and listening, reading literary and informational texts, and writing. Each grade level includes four modules, which span the full school year. The four modules allow students to build important knowledge based on a compelling scientific, literary, or social studies topic. Examples of module topics include: toys and play, weather, animal adaptations, local communities, literary classics, the American Revolution, and the impact of natural disasters. By studying only four topics per year, our students are able to become experts. They delve deeply into rich texts, build strong academic vocabularies, and create authentic written work related to their learning. These studies build children’s knowledge about the world around them, which fuels reading comprehension and critical thinking.
Mathematics Curriculum:
enVision Mathematics - Deep conceptual understanding is aided by visual models, personalized learning, and 3-act tasks. Grounded in problem-based and visual learning that enable students to gain a deeper understanding of math concepts, the newly updated enVision Mathematics K-5 also now features new resources to encourage student-led learning both in the classroom and at home
Social Studies Curriculum:
InquireED -Rigorous, Hands-On Investigations- Units launch with a compelling question, move through a sustained investigation of content, and culminate when students take informed action.
